Work Schedules | Frequently asked questions

Why does a time off request not match the work schedule's working hours?

If Exclude from FTE Calculation is selected in the work schedule's assignment to either a policy or an employment record, the amount of time off is calculated based on the FTE value in the employment record. If Exclude from FTE Calculation is not selected, vacation entitlement is calculated using the hours in the work schedule.

What is the relationship between a work days pattern and a work schedule?

A work days pattern defines the standard working days and the public holidays your organization observes. If you operate in multiple countries, you typically have a work days pattern for each of the countries to match the public holiday pattern. Work schedules enable you to define multiple different non-standard work patterns, which still rely on the work days pattern for public holidays. You do not need work schedules for work days patterns, but a work schedule works alongside a work days pattern.

Work schedules are typically used for hourly paid employees, part-time employees, and employees working condensed hours. For example, you can use work schedules for the following use cases:

  • Part time employees who work 6 hours 5 days a week.

  • Part time employees who work standard hours 2 days a week.

  • Employees who work full time condensed hours across 4 working days.

  • Employees work work full time condensed hours across 9 working days.

If you use work schedules, it is a good idea to also maintain a work schedule for standard full time pattern.
