Prepare for email to become the default login experience

What's happening?

Salesforce is updating its standard login pages to make email address login the default option. When logging in through login.salesforce.com or test.salesforce.com, the system will prompt users to log in using their email address rather than their username. Users can still log in with their Salesforce username by selecting Login with Username on the login page.

When is this happening?

Salesforce are introducing this change on a rolling basis:

• Sandbox environments: Rollout began in late August 2026 and we expect it to complete by 30th September 2026.

• Production environments: Rollout will begin 5 October 2026, with most environment receiving the change by early November 2026.

Will this affect you?

This depends on how your users login.

Via SSO

Any users that login via SSO won't be affected.

Via your My Domain link

Any users that login via your My domain link won't be affected.

Via login.salesforce.com or test.salesforce.com

When logging in, the system will prompt these users to enter their email rather than their username.

Recommended action

Check if any users login via login.salesforce.com.

1. Go to Setup.

2. In the Quick Find box, search for Login History.

3. Click Create New View.

4. Give the view a name. For example, Login URLs.

5. Enter a filter with Login URL contains login.salesforce.com.

6. Add Login URL to the fields you've selected. We recommend putting these near the top.

7. Click Save.

8. Click Download Now and open the file.

9. Check the usernames to determine who's logging in via login.salesforce.com.

Advise users of the change

We recommend advising these users to give them several options:

• Switch to using your My Domain URL

• Make sure they know their email and login with this going forward

• Choose the login via username button each time they login
