People Groups | Business context

Note For full information about Sage People setting up People Groups, see People Groups.

Introduction

Sage People enables you to set up and keep groups of team members brought together to meet a range of organizational needs. They enable WX users to search, join and create groups to connect with other team members based on shared interests or communities within your organization. Groups can be defined as Private or Public. Public Groups are visible to everyone in the organization; Private Groups are only viable to Group members.

How customers use People Groups

Group members do not need any formal reporting or organizational relationship and can be drawn from any part of the business. If they are visible through the People Bar, they can be included in a group. Examples include:

  • Project teams including people from a range of business areas.

  • Agile tribes and squads brought together for specific developments.

  • Special interest groups.

When creating a People Group you can define Parent and Child Groups; One level of relationship. A parent group can have multiple child groups, but you cannot define multi-levels of group relationships.

For example:

  • A parent Group for program of projects in the organization and child Groups for the individual projects in the program.

  • A parent Group for staff in a specific role across the entire organization, such as User Experience Designers, and child Groups for more specialized topics.

  • The parent and child group status can only be seen and maintained in the HR Manager Portal, not in WX.

  • Add the same people to more than one Group. Group Administrators can grant Administrator status to other Group members and remove Administrator status from other Administrators in WX.

  • Use Group Types to define several related Groups.

  • Group Type can only be seen and maintained in the HR Manager Portal, not in WX.

  • Report on Groups and Group Types.

  • Set up and maintain Groups through the HR Manager Portal. Groups are visible through WX in My Groups screen, as two tabs: Active and Discover.

  • The Active tab displays Groups where the user is a member.

  • The Discover tab displays public Groups the user can join.
