New policy options for enhanced objectives

Sage People Y23.4 release introduces two new policy options for enhanced objectives. The new options enable you to introduce a confirmation and approval stage to the enhanced objective lifecycle.

Previously, when a team member or manager revealed an enhanced objective, it automatically became active. With the new policy option, Confirm Before Activating, team members are required to confirm objectives their managers have created, and managers to approve objectives their team members have created. When Confirm Before Activating is enabled, you can also enable the Skip Team Member Confirmation option, which gives managers the option to create objectives for team members and activate them directly, without the objective being passed to the team member for confirmation first.

The policy options have no impact on managers creating the same objective for multiple team members in one action.

When Confirm Before Activating is in use, enhanced objectives have two new draft states: Team Member Draft and Manager Draft:

  • When an objective is first created and saved as a draft, it is in the Draft state.

  • When an objective is created by a team member and revealed to the manager for approval, it is in the Team Member Draft state.

  • When an objective is created by the manager and revealed to the team member for confirmation, it is in the Manager Draft state.

  • When a team member edits an objective in the Manager Draft state, it changes to the Team Member Draft state and needs to go through manager approval.

  • When a manager edits an objective in the Team Member Draft state, it changes to the Manager Draft state and needs to go through team member confirmation.

  • When a team member edits an objective in the Active state, it changes to the Manager Draft state and needs to go through manager approval. While the objective is in the Manager Draft state, watchers other than the team member or manager are unable to view its details.

  • When a manager edits an objective in the Active state, it changes to the Team Member Draft state and needs to go through team member confirmation. While the objective is in the Manager Draft state, watchers other than the team member or manager are unable to view its details. If Skip Team Member Confirmation is enabled, the objective stays in the Active state.
