Defining parental leave

Parental Leave is an employee benefit providing time off work for reasons associated with the birth or adoption of a child. Parental Leave typically includes Maternity, Paternity, and Adoption. Many countries have laws defining entitlement to parental leave factoring in both forward-looking expected dates and actual dates when birth or adoption has occurred. Sage People enables you to use both expected and actual dates when setting up Absence Accrual Rules for Parental Leave.

Details vary depending on employment law and how you implement it, but the outline process is:

  1. In the Absence Accrual Pattern, set up Absence Accrual Rules for each Parental Leave Reason you need to define, such as Maternity, Paternity, Adoption.

  2. For each Parental Leave Reason:

    • Check the Is Parental Leave checkbox so the relevant fields can be displayed in WX. "Relevant fields" are those held in the Parental Manager and Parental Team Member field sets for the Absence object.

    • Enter a Parental Leave Message to be displayed when any of the Parental Leave limits are reached.

  3. For each Rule, set up at least one Absence Accrual Seniority to define any accrual and limit parameters. You will need to set up more than one if the law requires, or your organization permits, entitlements to Parental Leave to vary depending on length of service.

The Seniority definition includes fields specifically for Parental Leave. Use these fields as follows:
